they knew too

05/06/2021

"they knew too" is a piece of dialogue and short poetry that follows two partners through the "end of the world." The first is a struggling kid that's not only lost their stability, but also their trust, faith, and themselves. The second has experienced the same struggles, yet reassures the first that no matter what, they will be with them through it all. The poem itself is made up entirely of song lyrics from different artists, all of whom are credited at the end of the piece.

This relates to the theme of "In Uncertain Times" because the end of the world as it's described here is full of chaos and loss, where nothing can be certain. The situations are met with feelings of peril and fear, where the only reassurance that can be found is within each other.

it's the end of the world as we know it

and all the gods in all the worlds began colliding on a backdrop of blue

even when the sky comes falling

over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over

the universe works in mysterious ways, but i'm starting to think it ain't working for me

i don't wanna know i'm not capable of coming out alive

and oh, i'm losing sight, i'm losing touch, all these little things seem to matter so much

i've been talking to myself forever (yeah), and how i wish i knew me better (yeah)

.

So when you met the new you, were you scared, were you cold, were you kind? Yeah, when you met the new you, did someone die inside?

.

are we prepared? are we there, do you even care? now i am afraid, but it's okay, the world crumbles around us

.

Hold onto me as we go, as we roll down this unfamiliar road.

Though it's the end of the world, don't blame yourself.

There's nothing you or I can do, so let the stars fall.

Believe me when I say that I wouldn't have it any other way.

.

...falling doesn't feel so bad, when i know you're falling this way too.
